Series Fix Review: Succubus Blues by Richelle Mead

When it comes to jobs in hell, being a succubus seems pretty glamorous. A girl can be anything she wants, the wardrobe is killer, and mortal men will do anything just for a touch. Granted, they often pay with their souls, but why get technical?

But Seattle succubus Georgina Kincaid’s life is far less exotic. At least there’s her day job at a local bookstore—free books; all the white chocolate mochas she can drink; and easy access to bestselling, sexy writer, Seth Mortensen, aka He Whom She Would Give Anything to Touch but Can’t.

But dreaming about Seth will have to wait. Something wicked is at work in Seattle’s demon underground. And for once, all of her hot charms and drop-dead one-liners won’t help because Georgina’s about to discover there are some creatures out there that both heaven and hell want to deny…

Review: Blood of the Wicked by Karina Cooper

When the world went straight to hell, humanity needed a scapegoat to judge, to blame . . . to burn.

As an independent witch living off the grid, Jessie Leigh has spent her life running, trying to blend in among the faceless drudges in the rebuilt city. She thought she was finally safe, but now she’s been found in a New Seattle strip club—by a hard-eyed man on a mission to destroy her kind.

A soldier of the Holy Order, Silas Smith believes in the cause: trawling the fringes of society for the murderous witches who threaten what’s left of the world. Forced into a twisting web of half-truths and lies, he has to stay close to the most sensuous and electrifying woman he has ever seen and manipulate her into leading him to the witch he has to kill: her brother. Silas doesn’t know that Jessie’s his enemy, only that he wants her, needs her, even as he lies to her . . . and must protect her until his final breath.

Series Fix Review: The Sea of Monsters by Rick Riordan

Percy Jackson’s seventh-grade year has been surprisingly quiet. Not a single monster has set foot on his New York prep-school campus. But when an innocent game of dodgeball among Percy and his classmates turns into a death match against an ugly gang of cannibal giants, things get . . . well, ugly. And the unexpected arrival of Percy’s friend Annabeth brings more bad news: the magical borders that protect Camp Half-Blood have been poisoned by a mysterious enemy, and unless a cure is found, the only safe haven for demigods will be destroyed.

In this fresh, funny, and hugely anticipated follow up to The Lightning Thief, Percy and his friends must journey into the Sea of Monsters to save their beloved camp. But first, Percy will discover a stunning new secret about his family — one that makes him question whether being claimed as Poseidon’s son is an honor or simply a cruel joke.

Tiffany is a wild child, plain and simple. These days, Tiffany takes on crazy bets to win a buck or two to help with groceries. In fact, she’s caught trying to swim across a perilous river at the opening of the story. Chief Deputy Mike Gable is the one patrolling the river and catches sight of some suicidal yahoo in a neon pink bikini daring the treacherous waters and speeding boats just to win a bet. He saves her rather roughly, after-all this isn’t something new between them. Mike’s been saving her for nearly ten years now. This leaves Tiffany angry because he just forced her to lose her bet and precious $60 bucks she was going to use for a number of things around her and her cousin’s house.

Review: The Left Hand of God by Paul Hoffman

Complicated is the best way to describe this book. Other words I would use would be suspenseful, dark, powerful, confusing, thought-provoking, alarming, offensive, and page-turning. I couldn’t put the book down the first night and found myself reading the night away into the twilight hours. I read seventy-five percent of the book in just one sitting – which says a lot for me, the slow reader of the group. In fact the only reason I put the book down was out of sheer exhaustion and the need to steal what few hours remained for work that morning.
